Could the close box and the command also default to close the "File",

have it ask me if I want to save half a dozen files that I've long

there's not even a way to check to see if I want to save the contents
of "Untitled-12" or not.
I too find this annoying, and I can't help but wonder how much memory
is being wasted by all those still-opened files in the file history
of all the windows (debugger, find, etc).
I realize that there can be several different windows (or "views")
open
for a given file, and closing a window isn't always synonymous with
closing a file. However, it should be possible to detect a window
that
has no backing store, or has never been saved to disk, or has no other
remaining "views" open.
Does command-shift-w (Close File FileName.h) do what you want? Maybe
this is something that one should use more often, then the file will
also be closed in other windows (I think).
