I am trying to create a classical toolbar (a separate, floating
palette of icons representing a modal tool set). I gather these must
now be implemented as panels (nonobvious).
I've created one, and am trying to set up an NSMatrix with buttons
inside. Ignoring the seeming impossibility of using IB to
effectively edit NSMatrix and enclosed buttons, let me instead ask
what I have to do to get the inspector to let me size this window
appropriately. What does IB base its minimum window width (and
height) upon? Is there any easy way to defeat this checking
(modifier combinations-with-resize don't help)?
So far, the inspector absolutely refuses to let the minimum window
width be set below 96 pixels, which is ridiculous for a toolbar, of
course. One could imagine buggy IB UI validation code checking a
panel for minimum sizes appropriate for typical panel button
placement / inclusion, but Sketch somehow has a toolbar that, while
too big for my application, is nonetheless much smaller than 96
pixels wide, and seems to behave reasonably when edited in IB.
In IB, I've tinkered with many attributes of the enclosed buttons,
the NSMatrix, its prototype, the panel, etc., to no avail. I've also
briefly tried storing the NIB in text format and editing the text,
which had the usual effect of producing a useless NIB. Maybe I
didn't try hard enough?
I've wasted far too much time on this. Assistance greatly appreciated. -jar
