Not sure. But it looks like mainly installation of documentation is taking that long.
I am just running the new post (6 Apr 06) of Developer Documentation, it was showing that only 20 KB of information needs to be upgraded. But now it's displaying the following screen:
Finishing Installation
Running Index Java symbols for Xcode API search Installer script.
Time Remaining: Less than a minute
 
from more than one hour...

It's not hung up, it's installing and indexing the documentation. On my dual PowerMac G5 this last "minute" takes about 20 minutes.

This is a long standing issue with the Xcode installer. It used to be documented in the Read Me notes for the installer, but I don't see it mentioned anymore.

Just let it run. If you killed the installer, I would highly recommend that you follow the instructions for completely removing your Xcode installation then reinstall it again.
