Just to follow up: I did submit this as a bug, but the bug folks eventually
wrote back to me and said they couldn't see what the problem was. So it
might never get fixed. I do sometimes wonder about the acumen (or lack of
same) with which bug reports are handled (and indeed, this is one reason I'm
reluctant to submit them - I give pages and pages of information in the
format they request, and all the same it just degenerates into a slanging
match: "There is no bug." "Yes there IS." "Send an example." "There is no
need for an example; this problem infects *all* Cocoa projects." And so
on...)
