Hi all,
I've got nothing but good things to say about Xcode 2.3. Here's some
initial observations:
* Debug build time:
My debug builds (and release builds) definitely seem faster. I don't
have any timings to share, but a rough guess is at least a 25% speed
improvement.
I switched my projects (two IB palettes and an app; all Universal) to
DWARF. On average, debug build sizes are 65% of the original size.
Note though that I didn't actually compare only the actual executable/
library. Since the palettes and app include tons of images, I
believe the savings are definitely more impressive.
* Release binary size:
Only a tiny change for me here. For the two palettes and the app,
there was an increase of about 100 to 200 bytes.
My only regret was that I couldn't use Xcode 2.3 earlier. Our company
was in the middle of a major release so we couldn't switch horses
during
the developer preview. Only one of our engineers who's working on
future
stuff switched so that we could provide feedback. It made the rest
of us
jealous ;-)
I'm about to release myself and figured "what the heck" :) This is
for my home business, so I can afford to be flexible. I'd say that
this has been one (if not the) most seamless upgrades of tools I've
done.
Kudos also to the documentation team for the improvements. Guides,
etc. are really cool.
