I
am new to XCode from other platforms, so please forgive my ignorance...
I am setting up an XCode (v2.4.1) project that mirrors some projects
have for other platforms, including VC++ under Windows and CodeWarrior
for various non-Macintosh platforms. The project has 300 source files
and 300 header files in it, which isn't small but isn't very large
either. The files are organized into a tree in the project view and the
tree consists of about 30 folders and goes at most two levels deep.
The problem is that XCode is very frequently stalling for 10 seconds at
a time with the spinning colored wait cursor. Just clicking on a tree
triangle will often cause it to do this. It doesn't seem to do this
with small projects, so my first guess is that XCode doesn't scale
well, at least on my machine. Perhaps my machine is too weak: It is a
Dual 2GHz PowerMac G5 with OSX 10.4.6, 512MB of RAM, and a 120GB hard
drive. I am currently executing only XCode, Safari, and Perforce on the
machine, and the machine has little installed on it beyond these
applications. Any other applications I've run on this machine execute
fine, and XCode/GCC otherwise compiles/links fine.
Is there anything I can do to rectify or further diagnose this problem?
Thanks.
