My question is:-
1. where do I write and compile the progrms of OpeGL? That is, where EXACTLY do I write stuff like glClear() and other OpenGL lines of code to run the program???

2. How does Cocoa or Carbon fit into all this (if at all it does)?

Be prepared for a bit of a learning curve ahead.

I would recommend checking this site out:  http://nehe.gamedev.net/

Slightly out of date at this time, but still incredibly valuable.  Lots of Xcode projects included, too.
