Error (1000) creating CGSWindow

I just added a second monitor to my main dev machine (23" cinema), and I'm now getting quite a few of the error messages listed in the subject. On the console, I'm also seeing quite a few "CGSResolveShmemReference : offset exceeds bounds" - both for Xcode (usually 1:1 with error creating window) as well as for other apps like Activity Monitor.
The cinema display is the primary monitor - I had it set up earlier today as the only monitor before adding back my original monitor (a 20" dinosaur anchor). There was no problem until I started using both monitors.
I'm using the original GeForce4 MX I got with the Quicksilver 2002.
Does anyone have an idea of what's wrong here and how to fix it? The errors don't appear to cause any real problem, but they're really annoying.
Thanks,
Hugh Hoover
