BTW, one thing I've noticed is that on Mactels, guard malloc is about an
order of magnitude faster than on PowerMacs, even when they have the
same amount of physical RAM.  In fact, I'd say that a G5 with guard
malloc off is almost indistinguishable from a Mac Pro with it on!  But
if you need to use guard malloc on PPC, I suggest a reboot before you
start, it helps a lot.
