I am really hoping someone has an answer to this because it is bugging me.
Everytime I try to have my application edit a file I have already created it
gives me "Apple Script Error -1409". I can't for the life of me figure out
what it means. How do I get rid of it?

Search for "1409" on developer.apple.com. One of the items found is a list of file system errors.

errFSForkNotFound	-1409
An attempt to specify a fork of a given file or directory, but that
particular fork does not exist.
