Again, generic "look and feel" helps nobody. Be specific. You can't

I agree, but when you have a fundamentally good product -- and CW was that -- I have no problem with copying the parts that worked well for people, especially when most of your users are going to be converts from that product.

6. Fortunately, small companies can be profitable in places where large
ones can't. So even though Apple can't turn a profit on the
next great IDE, I have faith that some smaller folks eventually will,
a la Metrowerks.

If they can -- great! But I personally think that Apple is doing a pretty good job with Xcode. No, it's not perfect -- but each release significantly improves my productivity.

Which is why it will pretty much be impossible for a third party to produce a financially viable alternative. To make money on an alternative to a free product you have to have something that's pretty spectacular. And in this case you have the added issue of compatibility. CW, as much as I loved it, usually had some hiccups when new versions of the OS came out or Apple changed something in the headers. I don't blame the MW folks, it was just a natural consequence of them working outside Apple.

it's time to give us better tools!

Ugh! We all want better tools. Even CW doesn't meet that definition, else there wouldn't have been 10 versions of it.

It's not nice to take pot shots at the dead. ;-)

equivalents. It would also be nice if everyone just used Macs!

Well, that's my solution to a lot of problems. LOL
