I agree. It is a recent thing.
Even after years, I remain *shocked* at how hard many Windows IDEs
make it
to see your header and implementation next to each other. It is
sheer UI
*stupidity* to not make this easy.
And, of course, many of the IDEs out there are now oriented toward
Java,
where this is not an issue.
I miss the ProjectBuilder multi-window option.
It is still there; it's how I work. I set it up that way long ago,
and the
preferences have survived all the upgrades. So I can't tell you
exactly
where to go, but you need to check your preferences.
I was wondering why so many people are complaining about this -
I've had Xcode set up to give me multiple editing window (just like
CodeWarrior) since it was called Project Builder. I thought I'd
just write in saying what the preference is and laugh at people who
can't find it, but I can't find it. I have Layout set to Default in
the General preference pane. I think the key is to resize the
editor pane in the project window down to nothing and then Xcode
will always open files in a separate window.
This setting is in the General pane of Xcode's preferences.
Particularly the upper left popup-menu titled 'Layout'. The
'Condensed' layout is the appears to be the one your talking about.
I've never used it before, though I don't know why, but I just chose
the All-In-One layout when I first started. I might start using it
though now that I've looked at it. It also looks the closest to
CodeWarrior's interface, which I liked when I used to use it.
