A user asked me for a universal binary of a tool of mine, so I've
upgraded to XCode 2.4, checking the box that says "Mac OS X 10.4
(Universal) SDK". I can produce a ppc-only build fine. When I check
"Intel" in the architectures list, though, it no longer links. There
are a bunch of undefined symbols, notably including basic libc stuff:
...
_abort referenced from ZeroLink expected to be defined in /usr/
lib/libSystem.B.dylib
_fprintf referenced from ZeroLink expected to be defined in /usr/
lib/libSystem.B.dylib
_getenv referenced from ZeroLink expected to be defined in /usr/
lib/libSystem.B.dylib
_getsectbynamefromheader referenced from ZeroLink expected to be
defined in /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib
_malloc referenced from ZeroLink expected to be defined in /usr/
lib/libSystem.B.dylib
_strcmp referenced from ZeroLink expected to be defined in /usr/
lib/libSystem.B.dylib
_strcpy referenced from ZeroLink expected to be defined in /usr/
lib/libSystem.B.dylib
...
and sure enough:
$ file /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib
/usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib: Mach-O fat file with 2 architectures
/usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (for architecture ppc64): Mach-O
64-bit dynamically linked shared library ppc64
/usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (for architecture ppc): Mach-O
dynamically linked shared library ppc
Did I miss something? How can I install the libraries I need to
produce universal binaries? I've checked the developer site [1], but
it's apparently wrong ("simply upgrading to Xcode 2.2 or later should
be sufficient").
