Following are comments I posted when entering feedback about OS X at
http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/
In recent years,Mac OS X has been doing good on recognizing existing
standards of X windows, NIS etc Unix standards.
Also I see lots of new OS X features coming out every year
. objc with garbage collection t.
. distcc/network build
. etc ...
But IMHO, OSX SPMS is really under invested.
I can't remove a mac software package by command line by a standard
command like rpm -e, pkgrm, swremove etc.
For other Unix flavors, I can always do following task by command
lines commands.
1. create software package
1.1 has package sources
2. query how many packages got installed.
3. delete packages I don't want
4. auto installed depended software packages
Other Unix SPMS can achieve above are FreeBSD ports, Linux YUM/RPM
, IRIX inst, Solaris pkgadd, HP-UX SD-UX ...
OS X need to at least catch up with above SPMS solution.
Again, this is just personal opinion from System Administrator's view.
