As Eric said, the fact that the Window Manager has been tolerant of truncated WIND resources is a happy accident and has probably been true for decades.  (The WIND loading code was written twenty-five years ago.)

Flippers were written to process every byte of a resource, used or not, which is why a field that the Window Manager tolerates to be undefined may cause trouble in the flipper.

That's the first thing I did, obviously. But it wasn't until I built
the project on an Intel Mac that I knew that the resource was
incorrect. In my ideal world, the build tools should show identical
behavior on both architectures. That a build fails on Intel but
completes without errors on PPC makes me somewhat uncomfortable.
