Yup. There are a couple of ways, all requiring root access.
1. Use gdb in a Terminal window, instead of Xcode, and the 'sudo'
command:
sudo gdb /usr/sbin/httpd
Ugly :-)
One man's ugly is another man's swan :-}
No way to set breakpoints easy and so on.
What's the matter with 'b main'? Of course, if you like wallowing in
the gutter :-} ...
2. Log in as root and then run Xcode (or use gdb in a Terminal
window). This
requires enabling the 'root' account.
In the SystemPreferences -> Accounts ?
Run NetInfo Manager, then Security -> Enable Root User (authenticate
first).
I don't think that running Xcode via 'sudo' will work:
sudo open /Developer/Applications/Xcode.app
In archive of list I have see idea:
- set that executable NOT start with debugger
- then in console specify sudo
But I cannot make this way working, because in the console of xcode
debugger
It show prompt
(gdb)
So (gdb) sudo su -
Says unknown command.
I'm not the expert for this approach. It may be that the PATH
variable is not set up as you expect it, so try using fully qualified
command names ("/path/to/command").
