I didn't see it earlier. I haven't checked the lists in a couple of days,
and have just been replying-all to private email.

Thanks. I had gotten my brain tied in a knot while simplifying complex (and
old) template code down to a reasonable example, and could no longer see
what was right in front of me... Then exhaustion prompted me to revert back
to assuming gcc incompleteness, which was a legitimate response I learned
back in the 2.9-something days...

Apologies for the rant-flavor of the initial post ;-)
