The approach I have always taken is to just create an Xcode project
for any libraries that I needed. In most cases, it takes less than
an hour to make the projects.
That is what I usually ended up doing too. It might just be that I'm
not a huge fan of autoconf/make to begin with, but I found an Xcode
project easier to deal with than trying to figure out which variables
in the configure script eventually end up in the gcc calls.
