In a previous life, I hacked autoconf, automake and libtool to work
building the Window version of Source-Navigator with cygwin. I also
got it to work with cygwin, but with the Visual Studio compiler. It
was not fun.
configure on cygwin is how gcc and gdb is built for Windows.
Actually, gcc is usually build using a linux host for Windows. The
point is, autoconf, etc., can be used to be build for Windows. It can
be quite painful, however.
