I've done that several times to no effect. I've also rebooted after
trashing the .plist file.
When I do view window under the file menu,
Shell: is listed as "Shell Name"
and there are no entries in "Currently Running Processes" in the
processes panel.
I'm suspicious about /usr/bin/login
