Martin, you said "the binary is scanned by an external app for copy protection purposes". What's your threat model? What are you trying to prevent (or allow)? In other words, WAYRTTD?
But since the answer to that question would then lead me to suggest a fix that you are probably constrained against doing, let me ask: Is it possible to change this 'external app' so it doesn't need to have the fields next to each other?
