I'ld like to create derivative apps from my "base" one. Using different targets and compile time options makes this easy, for the code. However, I'm not sure how to do this for my resources (.string and nib files). I'd like to have a "MyLocalizable.strings" file that has "kMyAppName" in it and, during a compile, it'd be copied to the respective Localizable.strings file for each app, with the "kMyAppName" replaced with the correct app name for that target. I'd like to do the same thing for the nib files (mainly to map the help and menu item strings). My main goal is to make sure that the my resource files don't get out of sync (which would happen if each derivative app had its own copy).
I think I could just have a pre-script that runs a replacement (grep/etc) for the .strings file, but I'm not sure if the Unix tools can handle the Unicode 16 encoding of my files. In addition, I don't know if that's the correct method for the nib files (do I just treat the sub files as text files and run them through a converter?).
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mark
