Thanks for perservering with my problem.
I wonder if I have a different XCode GUI to everyone else !! (2.4.1)
You say "Click the Build pane next to General in this window" but there is
NO build pane in this window.
Under Groups&Files I have Targets. I open Targets & see ->ImageAppTest (my
target). I select this & getInfo. I get a window with jus General &
Comments. The General has Name=ImageAppTest; Type Application; Direct
Dependencies =(empty)
Also I came across this on the web

You basically have to add these settings to your project (Target > Get Info
> Build tab)
GCC_VERSION_i386 = 4.0
GCC_VERSION_ppc = 3.3
MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET_i386 = 10.4
MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET_ppc = 10.2
SDKROOT_i386 = /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk
SDKROOT_ppc = /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.2.8.sdk
