Differing Executable Sizes

Several executables make up a product I work on. I've noticed some differences in the size of these universal executables as I have rebuilt things from one version to another of the main product although nothing has changed in the code (outside of system frameworks) since previous builds.
In researching this a bit, I have found that two different MacBook Pros and an early iMac all build similar but different sized executables even though all the machines are set of OS 10.4.10, Xcode 2.4.1, and the same version / build of gcc. All of these sizes also differ from that of my main build machine, a G5 Quad. These release builds all using direct copies / check outs of the same code and I have carefully confirmed that each is using the same version / branch for the builds.
Any thoughts or clues on why this occurs? This information would be warmly welcomed.
Should a minor OS version change, when built against the current OS (ex. 10.4.9 to 10.4.10) result in changes in the compiled code?
When building universal builds, is a difference in the executable size between a build on a PPC vs. Intel system be suspect? Any clue on why this happens?
Thanks,
