[OT] Disk image creation

This is slightly off topic, but since it relates to a development tool, I'm asking here. What are the best options for creating disk images for distributing a product via drag and drop installation? I don't need anything particularly fancy, just a background image and I want it to preserve my settings to not use metal windows and the size of window for the folder it contains intact. What's the latest and greatest for this?
