Argument list too long error

Hello,
Just starting out with XCode (about 4 weeks).
I'm trying to compile an open source application I've downloaded.
From the command line it compiles just fine, but when I try to compile ot within the XCode 2.4 I get the following error:

i686-apple-darwin8-gcc-4.0.1: installation problem, cannot exec '/usr/libexec/gcc/i686-apple-darwin8/4.0.1/cc1obj': Argument list too long

Is there a way to fix it?

Best regards,

-Eugene
