This same question came up for me - and the only details (and question) I would wish to add to the sequence of actions described to accomplish the chore are: <my adds are enclosed in angles>

In Groups and Files, select the <actual> Target <from the 'Targets' section> and choose Get Info.

Click the Build tab, select All Configurations < for the Configuration Popup and also select All Settings from the Collection popup>,

Type "name" into the search field. You'll see "Product Name" as a build setting. Set that field to the name you want. If you like, you can set it to $(TARGET_NAME),

QUESTION: What does this mean?: "Also set the Executable field in (2) the same way."
COMMENT: This does not seem to be the same situation - not sure what I am missing.

In any event - the desired result as per the original positing has worked for me, as well.

Thanks,

Lance Drake
