Option-double-click does an API search, which means there needs to be a symbol with that name. Text that has no associated symbol won't show a result, even if a full-text search would find something (as in this case).

Sure, and that's fine.

You can option-double-click, then switch the search type (using the buttons on the left side of the search bar) to "Full-Text", and it will immediately show any text-based results.

Right, so I did that, and I still get no results.

Option-double-clicking on "printf" in my code turns up many results, but the first result is "_MPInitializePrintf", and "printf" is nowhere to be found in the result set.

Adding to the confusion is that there's a bookmark selected in the lower-left pane under Bookmarks (in this case "Xcode Build Settings").

I also get no results in the docs for using the Help menu search facility for a term like "exception." Typing that into the Reference Library window's search field, with Developer Tools Reference select, turns up no results. The same is true of "breakpoint". These are terms which I would expected would turn up a lot of material, especially within the Xcode documentation, reducing the burden on the Xcode list.
