Maybe you could set all your projects to place build files into one general directory with subdirectories for each project. Then you could set TM to not backup that one folder. One other way would be to set TM not to backup each and every build directory, but that would definitely be quite a hassle.
I most definitely agree with Daniel, TM should have much better backup options. You, IMO, should always be able to specify what you want backed up. Not just what you don't want backed up.
I filed this back before Leopard was released.
I'm going to file a bug as well once, especially since we all know that the more bugs that get filed the more likely it is to get addressed. I'm hoping Apple will address this one with a 10.5 update, and not make us wait till 10.6.
It's almost certain they won't add significant functionality during 10.5's lifetime. First, they'll want to consider all their options and decide which they think is best. "They" refers to what is effectively a committee, so there you go.
Funny how those things take time, huh? :-) Second, new features require a more resources for implementation and testing. Third, if they do it for Leopard it's one less new feature they can use to sell Leopard+1.
File the request, though, or you won't see it until 10.7. ;-)
Yeah, it's sad but it's also true. Regards, David Alger ******************** Ron Paul for President 2008 http://ronpaul2008.com/RESTORE THE REPUBLIC & RETAIN YOUR RIGHTS

I've just realized that Time Machine (TM) seems to be backing up the temporary binary files from my Xcode projects. I'm particularly thinking about the .o files, but I'm sure there are others. If checked for a simple "Hello World" program that main.o appears in my TM backup.

Am I missing something here, or should I just file a bug against this?
John.
I would personally love to see TM have MUCH more options to which files it includes or does not include, I just haven't gotten around to filing a bug report yet. Personally I would love to see full file globbing of what to exclude AND include (There are some people I would prefer to backup just their /Users folder yet exclude /Users/*/Music. regexp would be even better because we could better handle things).
So yes, I would file a bug report. Hopefully I'll get one filed in the next few days as well.
My 2 cents.
Daniel
