I just tried this on a simple new project, and renaming works fine.
I suggest doing the same: create a new project, rename the main.c (or
whatever) file, and see what happens. If it doesn't work, explain
the exact steps you took, including what template you used. I also
suggest then trying the rename using a new virgin account and another
new project, to test whether the renaming malfunction might be due to
a per-user setting of some kind.
I also think you need to provide more details about the history of
your project. Was it converted from an older project? How many past
conversions? What template was it originally created with? What
Xcode version was it created with? Can you reduce it to a simple
example that still malfunctions?
