*I* don't particularly want to see tonnes of messages along the
lines of "Alastair, please can you answer this because I'm still
under the NDA?" (replace my name with anyone eastwards of your
location). And Apple probably doesn't want its launch events
ruined by developers turning up with developer seeds going "Hey,
look at this, it's great" a few hours before the actual event.
(You might say it would be better if Apple had officially lifted
the NDA on Leopard-related matters, but I imagine they didn't do
that to avoid confusion over what was still covered by NDA and
what wasn't.)
Of course, Alastair, smart as you are, you got me. I must confess
that I started this thread to make a point.
It's a good point, I agree, even if I can see the odd problem with it.
1) You made a good point about developers running around with
developer seeds. Why, exactly, does Apple bring me into the
situation where I am getting support requests on Leopard (which I
do), but I am supposed to be quiet under NDA, and the final release
is not on ADC either?
:-) I know, tell me about it. We're in the same boat here too, and
I've already had to deflect at least one customer from demanding a
refund basically because we can't say for sure whether or not we're
Leopard compatible yet. (To be clear: the customer in question
didn't have Leopard *either*!)
2) Apple ruined it's own launch event, nobody else. Period. The
customers here are receiving Leoaprd from Apple Mail Order, not
just some overzealous retailer (the later have mailed out 10.5 on
Wednesday, putting it into people's inboxes yesterday)
Indeed.
This is bad planning on Apple's part, and it is causing grief to
developers. Bad Apple!
My take: it'll all be over in a few hours anyway.
Kind regards,
Alastair.
