This is not about Xcode, but I figure that developers who have
programmed for Leopard will be lurking around here. There isn't
really a list where my question is very relevant either.
I use a Scheme implementation called Gambit-C very frequently
(http://www.iro.umontreal.ca/~gambit/wiki/index.php/Main_Page).
Unfortunately, I upgraded to Leopard, and the compiler and interpreter
run exceedingly slow only when reading a file and evaluating it. The
actual execution speed isn't affected, only the loading and
constructing of the code. I mean, I basically can't load any files
over 300 lines because it crawls to a halt (I have confirmed this on
another machine).
I don't expect any of you to know Gambit. I want to know the
technical details of Leopard's changes regarding the filesystem and
io, and possibly anything else you think could cause the problem. I
have tried debugging the system with dtrace, but everything looks
normal. Have you guys faced anything as alarming as this when
programming on Leopard? If not, out of the things that have changed,
what do you think could be causing this (with the general idea of what
a compiler does)? Are there any good articles about the technical
differences of Leopard?
Thanks,
James
