Me again....

I got the solution. I switched back to german layout, opened the Xcode preferences and in the Key-Binding I set "Option-8" as the binding for the action "Insert Open Brace". The Key combination of Option and 8 (or alt and 8) gives the { in the german layout.

Now the closing brace is inserted automatically ;-)

Programming Obj-C with a german Layout, is no fun, because all the important keys are available through the Option Key only. [ is Option-5, ] is Option-6, etc..

Joachim

Ok, I moved all my custom settings aside. After Starting Xcode, the Setup-Assistant came up. Because of that, I'm sure, that Xcode thinks it's starting for the first time. I went to the preferences, switched on "automatically insert }" and opened a new Obj-C file. wrote a dummy method and typed {.... Nothing happened, no closing } appeared.

Oh...wait.... I got an Idea ---- trying something ----

I'm using a german Keyboard layout, since I'm in Germany ;-) I just switched to US layout and voila after pressing {, which is "shift Ü" then, the closing } appeared.

I think I have to file a bug!

There's an easy way to test that.

You could try moving your preferences aside, and see if the functionality works on a clean set. :)

I'm using "normal" Obj-C .h and .m files.

I have to say, that this never worked for me. Neither in Xcode 2.4 nor in 3.0. I'm using my own Key-Bindings and Color-Themes but I don't know, if that can be the cause? The Key-Bindings are originated from 2.4 and the Color themes are from beta/previews of Xcode 3.0. Furthermore I have a bunch of self-written User-Scripts for Doxygen.

This should be working for you. I tried just now and it works for me. It would help to know if you are using any specific kind of file.

I tried with obj c and java files.

Hi List,

in my Xcode 3.0 Preferences I've switched on "Syntax aware indenting" and "Automatically insert closing }". So I expect a closing } when pressing { but that's is not the case. Is this a known Issue or is there something I'm not getting here? This is not a real bug for me but its annoying and error prone to manually insert the closing }.

BTW: It would be nice, if Xcode could also insert the closing ", ] and ). The cursor should then be positioned between them.

Joachim
