Xcode uses 100% of cpu while debugging

  • Thread-topic: Xcode uses 100% of cpu while debugging

I have a Carbon app written in C++ that I need to maintain. When debugging
within Xcode, there are certain functions cause the cpu utilization to go to
100% for 5 minutes while its attempting to display variables in the debugger
window. This happens with every step through the function. After 5 minutes
of waiting, the variables are then displayed.

At first I thought it might be the data formatters, but I now have the data
formatters disabled and it still happens.

I'm using Xcode 2.4.1, but I've had this issue for quite a few versions.
Usually I revert to printfs and don't bother setting breakpoints, but that
method of debugging is wearing thin.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a known workaround?
