Xcode 3 losing scm password

I have set up access to subversion repositories in Xcode 3 and it
works most of the time. However, occasionally, upon opening a project
I get an error that the repository cannot be accessed. When I inspect
the SCM settings, I discover that the password field is blank. So I
reenter the password and it validates again. Then it's good to go a
for a while until the same error occurs again, maybe a few days later.
