That's true, unless the man pages are out of sync, which is often the
case when upgrading from Tiger to Leopard, especially if you already
had Xcode installed under Tiger.
So, I don't think it's fair for everyone to admonish Rob with "RTFM"
when he did indeed look at the man pages, and they were wrong, through
no fault of his own. It's Apple's bug, and it's one of those things
that you don't know is wrong until you run into an issue like this.
This issue with the outdated man pages bit me as well. The solution
to is not necessarily as extreme as archiving and re-installing
everything. I followed the instructions at the end of this page:
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20071201021830891
Specifically:
sudo mkdir /usr/share/man/old
sudo find /usr/share/man -type f -exec test -e {}.gz \; -exec mv {} /
usr/share/man/old \;
sudo find /usr/share/man -type l -exec test -e {}.gz \; -exec mv {} /
usr/share/man/old \;
After doing this, I see the proper Leopard man pages.
Dan
