Those are not the same exception.
Dave's exception comes from:
*** - [NSCFString substringWithRange:]: Range or index out of bounds
while the Nava's exception comes from (and was fixed in Xcode 3.1):
*** -[NSCFString rangeOfString:options:range:locale:]: nil argument
