Ok… I added an AppleScript to switch to the finder and back to
Xcode after checking the file out. It’s very hokey but it works.

Nice… I added osascript calls to close the document and reopen
it after the checkout is done (or file made writable) and Xcode still doesn’t
detect that the file is now writable until I switch out then switch back into
Xcode L
