Xcode locking up in building

Anyone else having Xcode lock up during a build? The Build results says "Checking Dependencies." It has to be force-quit but does not spin. Upon relaunch of Xcode, it may lock up again when Build is clicked, or not.
Seems to correlate with enabling the detailed build results. The toolbar that toggles the short versus detailed build results disappears too, so there is no way to turn detailed build results off. I have found no way to bring the toolbar back, and there seems to be no menu item for "Summary Build Results."
This is specific to the project. I have had it happen to two projects now. The cure was as usual - to copy and paste all the code from the old project to a new project.
Is there any file in the project folder that can be safely deleted - i.e. some sort of settings file for the project?
