error from strip tool

I have a separate strip build phase that uses /usr/bin/strip -S -r -x. This used to work, but with Xcode 3.1.2, I get an error message:

bad string index for symbol table entry 335190 in: <path to executable> (for architecture i386)

Does this mean anything to anyone?
