How can I find out if these are the current doc sets?

Assuming nothing is wonky in your setup, if you have subscribed to the feed and an update is available, you'll see an "Update" button if there's a later doc set available. If you are subscribed and you have automated updating turned on then updates should "just happen". You can force a check using the gear menu in the lower left of the doc window.

If you suspect something isn't working in the process, one way to check is to use "Get Info" for the doc set to get the "Feed URL". You can paste the URL into Safari and see the raw doc set entries, which will include the version number. If you see a later version there and you are subscribed to the feed but don't have an "Update" button, then there's a problem.

As a general rule we do monthly updates, so if you haven't gotten an update since May it's a pretty good bet you are not current, which is certainly the case here from what you've listed. The current version for both of these doc sets is 316.

Okay, for example:

- com.apple.ADC_Reference_Library.CoreReference.docset, I have version 305, dated May 13, 2008
- com.apple.ADC_Reference_Library.DeveloperTools.docset, I have version 311.0, dated May 23, 2008

How can I find out if these are the current doc sets?

You can Get Info on a doc set to get version info.

When you hit the "Check Now" button, the checking is done asynchronously, so sometimes there is a bit of a delay before you see results.

FWIW, if I select "Check now", it always comes back immediately with "Checked for doc set updates". No indication if that was successful or not. How do you even determine what version of the docs you have?

Hi,

Is anyone having problems updating docsets? Each time I try to update, for example, Core Library nothing happens whatsoever. The progress indicator spins, 'Beginning Download' displays, then '0 of 292 MB' displays, then.... nothing...

This affects all docsets for me. I've tried everything of which I can think including direct connection of my machine to the net sans router.

It would be very nice to be able to download the docsets as a disk image, or if one could update from the ADC monthly mailing DVD... That might have some mitigating effect on issues such as that which I'm encountering...

Sincerely,
Dave
