I agree. The current behaviour is akward at best and it's the reason
why I don't use the template and change the source code by hand
instead of relying on a smart automated process that I can setup per
project.

Let me turn this around: Why should it be in Xcode's
preferences? It's a field in your Address Book card, and Xcode
will take it from there now.
