Ron, after deleting the connect.apple.com entry in the keychain, there
was no change in Xcode behavior. I was not prompted for my ADC account
or password when relaunching Xcode and clicking on "Check Now". There
were no new lines added to the output log text.

You can't do anything with the .xar file, but since this shows all
the pipes are working, try this:
Start up Keychain Access and delete the connect.apple.com entry.
Then run Xcode and attempt to update the docs -- you should be
prompted for your ADC account/password; make sure to use the same
account info you did when downloading the .xar file, and see if that
works.
(Yes, this is annoyingly obscure to fix if this is the problem -- we
hope to be able to avoid this particular issue soon.)

Ron,
Entering the RSS feed URL into Safari gives me a list of
"basicAuthGetSoftware" links. Clicking on the latest one (v314.6.0)
asks me to enter my ADC username and password. It then downloads a
package named:
com.apple.adc.documentation.applexcode3_1.developertools.xar
I don't know what to do with the .xar file.
Thx

How can I update my documentation?
Please file a bug and we'll try to figure out what's up. As part
of that, select a doc set in the doc window and get info on it,
then try entering the RSS URL listed there directly into Safari --
you should see the doc set updates available, and clicking on one
of them within Safari may give you more info on what's happening.
You can also get documentation (now in doc set format) on the DVDs
sent out by ADC, and more options are likely to become available
in the future.

Ron, surely there must some other way to get developer
documentation?
My doc set hasn't updated since May. Running Xcode with -
DocSetDebug produces no useful output:
$ /Developer/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/MacOS/Xcode -
DocSetDebug 1
[Note: Xcode is running in 64-bit mode. To run 32-bit from the
command line, use either /usr/bin/arch or gdb's -arch option.]

How can I update my documentation?

I am unable to download the iPhone documentation.
Please use Terminal to run Xcode in this debug mode, then send
me the text that results:
/Developer/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/MacOS/Xcode -
DocSetDebug 1

delete the .docset that is associated with it, will that fix
the problem? If not, what should I do?
