If you specify c99 (-std=c99) then I think you can use "universal
character names". According to <http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-4.0/
c99status.html>, it's available in recent versions of gcc.
So just search and replace the non-ASCII characters with their
escapes and you should be ok. The notation being \uXXXX or \UXXXXXXXX.
