I second that. While theoretically they don't really
affect anything, and theoretically they call attention
to the errors/warnings, in practice they are
psychologically disturbing. (Maybe that's not hard to
accomplish with me, but...!)
I typically find myself too unsettled to correct the
bug(s) until I've "popped" all the bubbles around the
area in question, thus eliminating the remaining
theoretical benefit of showing the full error message.
This is probably aggravated in part by the fact that
some edits can cause the bubbles to start stacking up
all funny.
So I'm glad I'm not the only crazy one then, and will
feel much better turning them off on my machines
despite all their theoretical benefits. I trust myself
to notice the more subtle gutter/status bar flags and
correct the underlying issues.
