Then you probably should have mentioned in your initial post that
it's old code with lots of deprecations you don't plan to update. ;-)
That suggests I knew in advance that deprecated warnings are treated
differently that other warnings. I was unaware of the flag for
hiding deprecations until after this thread was well under way.
Therefore, I could not have anticipated it in advance.
I think Larry's point is that if you're asking to do something out of
the ordinary, you may be overlooking a more ordinary solution to the
problem. If you're getting too many intrusive warnings due to
deprecation, then consider looking at workarounds to the deprecation
(which would be productive) rather than workarounds to displaying the
warnings (which is risky). Reframing the issue often brings a better
solution.
