Compiler error ... crt1.o missing?!?

Hello. I have been stuck with this error all morning, and I've made things steadily worse by mucking around with the build settings. Now, each time I try to build a debug or deployment version of my program, XCode now complains: "Command /Developer/usr/bin/gcc-4.0 failed with exit code 1" "could not find entry point "start" (perhaps missing crt1.o)" There is no crt1.o anywhere I can see. There's crt2.o and 3.o, but in gcc 3.3, 4.0, and even 4.2 (preview), I can't find crt1.o. If, in fact, I don't need crt1.o, what should I set in the Project Settings or Build Settings to get this to work? I need the 10.5 sdk because I'm using CalCalendar headers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have tried changing the Architecture and Valid Architectures without success. The last time the compiler succeeded (and the program worked) was the final debug build, after which I made no changes to the code. The first time I tried a deployment build, this error occurred, then I started changing things and ended up in this mess.
