iPhone and Mac OSX configurations in the same project?

I haven't found any info in FAQs or documentation online, so I figured
I'd ask you all. Are iPhone projects supposed to remain separate from
Mac OSX projects or can you mix the two. I have a project where I have
Mac OSX targets and iPhone targets, however, it's somewhat confusing
how to integrate the two and I find that the TARGET_OS_IPHONE is not
defined properly.

Has anyone successfully done this?
