The iPhone SDK package is several weeks older than the Xcode 3.1-only
package. They just haven't updated it since Xcode 3.1 was released
last week.
Hint: Generally when a reputable engineer (or organization) does
something that doesn't seem to make sense, there's actually a reason
behind it. The reason or response may be suboptimal, but it's usually
not a matter of just not being "smart enough". (This is related to
the
principle that other people's bugs are always 'trivial' or 'stupid'
while one's own bugs are 'tricky' or 'subtle'.)
Which begs the question: If I install the SDK, should I then install
the final Xcode 3.1 over it, to get the "good" Xcode instead of the
one that is packaged with the SDK?
If you have the latest iPhone SDK installed, you shouldn't need to re-
download Xcode 3.1.
