.... but ...
.... if you need to set environment variables to make Xcode work, whether in the shell or via the above method, then something is wrong with the Mac OS X installation on your system.
You should *never* need to manually set or unset environment variables to make the Xcode tool chain work.
If you manage to set environment variables such that it starts to "work", you might likely be working with a configuration that is well outside of the norm and it may start failing for mysterious reasons sometime in the future.
